What Are You Doing?

Now that I have lost some weight, I get a lot of questions thrown my way....
"What are you doing?"
"What diet are you doing?"
"Is it hard?"
I don't claim to be a pro. In fact, even though I have consistently lost weight for the past 2 months, there will always be ups and downs. You don't get fat making the right choices. There are days where it takes every ounce of willpower I have to eat a hard boiled egg over 3 Oreo's but I am not going back to that unhealthy state.

I will tell you what I have done and you can take it for what it's worth. I would love for you to leave me a note at the end and tell me what YOU are doing to make changes.

Work Out! I work out a lot. It's no secret that movement helps weight loss. It doesn't matter if you walk, run, dance or whatever YOU MUST MOVE. Can you lose weight without working out? Sure you can, but at some point you are going to hit a plateau and you are going to have to MOVE.

Give up the food that holds you back. I have given up alcohol, processed foods and sugar. It sucks but it needed to be done. I would often have a glass of wine or two at night which are calories that aren't needed. The problem wasn't just the wine....it was that wine leads to snacking for me. 2 glasses of wine is about 200 calories so cutting those out is pretty big. Does this mean that I never drink? Of course not BUT it has to be a pretty special occasion now.

Share your successes and failures. I have HUGE support from friends and family. In fact, I have support from people who I haven't talked to in years. I share my successes on Facebook and I see the praise that I get from people and that just makes me want to fight more. I also share my failures...those days when I don't want to get of the couch or I feel frustrated, I share that and people help push me. THAT is an amazing feeling!
I see these as the secrets to my success. YES it is hard. YES it takes constant work. At the end of the day I have learned that I am worth it. Sadly, I am not getting any younger and it gets harder. I want to be a role model for LG. I want her to turn to healthy options for food while knowing that sweets, etc. are OK every now and then. It is a process that I will have to continue to work out and fine tune.

What are YOU doing to make changes?

    1. Congratulations! After 3 kids I needed to lose weight too! I started to use the myfitnesspal app and it was a huge wake up call to me. What, I can only have 1250 calories a day? What, that is how many calories are in my sandwich? Keeping a food diary helped to kick start my weight loss on this app plus knowing how many calories was in everything! I started doing a very low carb diet too. It made sense, eating lean meats and protein were far less calories and I could enjoy eating more! Since I am still breast feeding the combination of the two were enough for me and I lost 17 pounds in two months! I am now at a healthy weight and less than I was when I got married. In fact I haven't been this small in over ten years when I was playing basketball twice a week and volleyball twice a week! I still may try to lose 5 more pounds to look good on my Hawaii trip in two months but if not I will still feel good!

    2. I agree... MyFitnessPal is great! I used it a lot during my weight loss journey, too. It helped me identify habits that had to go, and helped me find satisfying, healthier alternatives. I still use it when I'm eating someplace new so I can identify the healthiest choices! I love my new "normal" and am so glad I was able let go of my old self-destructive ways!

Lia, you're awesome! Keep up the good work, and keep on enjoying those great results!
